Resin Sand Production Line

A resin sand production line is an integrated, automated system designed for the continuous preparation and regeneration of chemically bonded sand used in high‑precision metal casting. Unlike conventional green sand, resin‑bonded sand offers superior dimensional accuracy, excellent surface finish, and the ability to produce complex cores and molds with minimal defects.

The production line typically consists of four main stages: sand preparation, mixing, molding, and reclamation. Raw silica sand is first dried and cooled to a controlled temperature (typically below 30 °C) to ensure consistent reactivity. It is then screened to remove oversize particles and fines. The conditioned sand is pneumatically conveyed to a continuous mixer, where two‑part resin (e.g., furan, phenolic, or alkaline phenolic) and a liquid catalyst are injected in precise, programmable ratios. The mixing cycle is brief (20–60 seconds) to avoid premature curing. The coated sand is discharged directly into core boxes or mold flasks.

After casting and shake‑out, the used sand undergoes a multi‑stage reclamation process: magnetic separation to remove metallic fines, mechanical attrition in a vibratory or impact crusher, thermal regeneration (heating to 600–800 °C) to eliminate residual resin and organic contaminants, and finally air classification and cooling. The reclaimed sand is then blended with fresh sand (typically 5–15% new sand makeup) and recirculated.

Key advantages include high throughput (up to 30 t/h or more), low binder consumption, reduced waste disposal costs, and consistent sand quality monitored by PLC‑based systems. Real‑time sensors track sand temperature, flow rate, and resin addition, enabling closed‑loop control. Typical applications include automotive engine blocks, cylinder heads, valve bodies, pump housings, and heavy machinery components. The closed‑loop design not only improves casting quality but also supports environmental compliance by minimizing volatile emissions and reusing up to 95% of the sand.
